Circumcision 101 – Memphis, TN
Do babies feel pain? Does circumcision prevent HIV and penile cancer? Isn’t the foreskin just extra skin?
Circumcision is the most common pediatric surgery performed in the United States, yet few people know what it entails.
Now, Memphians have a chance to find out everything they’ve wanted to know about circumcision but were afraid to ask. Georganne Chapin, M.Phil., J.D., a leading authority on circumcision, will answer your questions at a free lecture on Wednesday, July 10 at 6pm at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, Meeting Room A, 3030 Poplar Avenue, Memphis TN 38111.
Georganne will explain what actually happens during a circumcision and why the United States remains the only Western developed country that routinely circumcises baby boys in a medical setting. She will also read from her new book, This Penis Business and from Marilyn Milos’ companion book, Please Don’t Cut the Baby.
Everyone who attends will receive a free copy of Skin in the Game: Circumcision Cuts Through Us All.
